RELIVING A PHENOMENON (MARILYN MANSON & THE SPOOKY KIDS, WITH KILL MISS PRETTY AND MORE)

In 1990, I was a student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Though I did have a natural interest in all things aviation, my general artistic interests kept me away from most of the normal college life.... I lived off campus for my entire stay in Daytona, and, but for a select few, befriended mostly local musicians and surfers for my companions. Not only was this a period of social growth for me, as it is for most youth living away from their parents for the first time, but this was also an important beginning in what drives my artistic senses today.

Spending at least three nights a week at the Mtv famed 701 South, for their "Alternative and Industrial" nights, Sunday Bloody Sunday, which led to Sunday Bloody Tuesday then Thursday, I was first exposed to the heavy beats of Euro Industrial acts like Front 242, Nitzer Eb, Canada's Skinny Puppy, along with our own Ministry and Nine Inch Nails, and more. And it was this raw electronic beat influence that drove my own early recordings. My friend Ann, was very much into this musical 'sub-culture' and booked South Florida bands for a few local clubs in the area, including 701 South. I remember her giving me a handmade cassette tape to listen to of a band from Ft. Lauderdale called Marilyn Manson and The Spooky Kids.

A few weeks later this new act played 701 South on their local band night, to a small crowd of 20 or 30 locals. I was an instant fan, if for nothing more that their originality, but I did like the music too. I had been listening to the cassette, which featured a track, My Monkey...

I had a little monkey
I sent him to the country and I fed him on gingerbread
Along came a choo choo
Knocked my monkey koo koo
And now my monkey's dead
At least he looks that way
But then again don't we all

...which later appeared on Marilyn Manson's first CD, Portrait of an American Family (note 'The Spooky Kids' had been dropped from the band's name). I remember eating spaghetti with the band the next day at Ann's apartment, and continued to catch their shows whenever they came to town, usually to very small, 'in-the-know' crowds only. Good times!

Many years later, after a nice stint in aviation, and a shorter than expected time living in Los Angeles, I now find myself back in South Florida. While in LA, I occasionally kept in touch with a friend Russ, who's earlier band, The Bus (turn Dot Fash, turn Cleopatra Records' The Numb Ones) did a few shows with my Florida band in the late 90's. His current project Kill Miss Pretty, has for the past few years been making their way to, perhaps the status of the most popular band in South Florida, often featured in many local magazines and newspapers.

Fronted by singer, Alicia Olink, Kill Miss Pretty, with Russ Rogers on Guitar (also Synth and Programming) and Martin Davis on Bass, have become a highly sought after act, known, not only for their 'electro-pop' music, but also for their live shows, each featuring a different theme. I first experienced one of their shows earlier this year where the theme was The Wizard Of Oz. Knowing of my recent endeavors in film, Russ asked me if I would document the show, as it would be the first with a recent collaborator, Scott Putesky, aka Daisy Berkowitz, co-founder and original guitarist from Marilyn Manson (and now my college story above begins to tie in). Each dressed in some form of Oz character, with other live stage props, including The Tin Man and Dorthy, Kill Miss Pretty featured a new collaboration with Scott, called Judy Garland (available for free download at www.KillMissPretty.com). With the footage I recorded, I ended up making a live-ish music video for the highlighted song of the evening, which I will post right after this story.

Soon after this show, Scott officially joined the band as Lead Guitarist, adding his signature tones and sounds to their live shows. This past summer, in celebration of their US Tour, which climaxed at LA's Viper Room, the band recorded an EP, called The Summer Four, featuring four tracks including newer versions of Leave A Message (my personal favorite and current homemade ringtone), Drawing Pictures of Haunted Houses, Outta My Head, featuring Scott on Electric Sitar, and a remake of The Spooky Kids' track, She's Not My Girlfriend, also featuring Scott on guitar.

Aside from The Summer Four EP, Kill Miss Pretty has released two full length albums, Bite Your Tounge and Permission For Strange, both of which are also available for free download at www.KillMissPretty.com. Each of these albums highlights the bands unique blend of electronica, grooving guitars and unavoidable hooks that stay in your head, long after the music is over. Most recently, Cleopatra Records released the Judy Garland (Electro Black Lash Mix) produced by Europe's Mozart & Friends (known for popular remixes of Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and more). This dance track is available on iTunes and Amazon.com.

As Marilyn Manson went on to do what Marilyn Manson has done, left in it's wake was The Spooky Kids, along with it's unique worldwide fan base of music from that early era. Those fans will wish they could be in South Florida this coming Friday night, October 29th, where Churchill's Hideway in Miami kicks off Halloween weekend, hosting 'Let Your Ego Die: A Spooky Kids Tribute". Headlining the night will be Scott Putesky as Daisy Berkowitz with Kill Miss Pretty, performing early Spooky Kids material, some never before heard.

“I knew then he [Dangerfun Entertainment head Ian Michael, promoter of the event] had the right idea in creating a particular kind of event for a particular (and locally created) phenomenon“ said Putesky. “This is a great and very rare opportunity for younger and foreign fans to experience a revived form of Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids shows of the early 1990’s. Older and more familiar fans from the south Florida rock scene will be reminded of the unique nature of the band’s musical origins provided mostly by Spooky Kids authority, archivist and curator, Putesky as well as bassist Brad Stewart (aka Gidget Gein) and Stephen Bier (aka Madonna Wayne Gacy or Pogo). All the unreleased songs in the catalog will be represented in some form or another but most likely true to original form. Spooky Kids tribute groups exist all over the world and all commemorate the life of Spooky Kids bass player Brad Stewart aka Gidget Gein who died in 2008. Should you be in the South Florida area this weekend, as Scott stated, this is a rare opportunity to relive the birth of that early phenomenon, Marilyn Manson and The Spooky Kids, as I remember it from my days in Daytona Beach. And then there were four - Welcome Scott

We'd like to take a moment and introduce the newest member of the KMP family, Scott Mitchell Putesky. With the stage name, Daisy Berkowitz, Scott was a founding member and original guitarist of Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids and now brings his signature sound to our recordings and performances. Our collaboration with him on our latest single Judy Garland, late last year, proved the impetus for what is becoming a boundless creative partnership. Look for A LOT of cool new music in the months ahead.

New Music

The month of June has brought a short reprieve from live performances, and allowed us to refine and record 3 new tunes. Pre-release versions of "She's Not My Girlfriend" (an unreleased Spooky Kids song), "Outta My Head" and "Self Destroiment" will begin surfacing this summer, particularly at the live shows. We'd also like to encourage any and all attendees to record these songs at the shows. Our hope is to use someone's recording as an actual single b-side or additional track on the upcoming album - now scheduled for release later this year.

Fire Walk With Us

Our last South Florida show for awhile will be this Friday June 25th at The Monterey Club in Fort Lauderdale, when we perform a tribute to the Twin Peaks legacy. Attendees/Participants are encouraged to dress as characters from the films/show, as we most certainly will be. A special prize will be awarded to the person wearing the best costume. Two special sets will be joined by the loveliness that is Cupcake Burlesque.

Local artist Francesco LoCastro recently held a photo shoot with Boynton electro raunch-pop act Kill Miss Pretty. Broken up into three parts, with a fourth coming in a week or so, each set of photos is equal parts titillation, art, and theatrics, featuring the trio in masks, industrial garb, and steamy lead singer Alicia Olink in various poses that, well, highlight her smokin' bod. (In one photo, while lying on the floor, she dons a wife beater with "Fuck It" etched in marker across the chest.)

The only recurring theme throughout the different sets is that they incorporate a killing, obviously a reference to the band's name. The members provided all the props for the shoot, according to Olink, but it was all LoCastro's vision. Some more photos are after the jump. To see the album, visit KMP's Facebook page here.

The band performs at Exxxotica in Miami this weekend, and will be holding down booth 936 at the porn fest Friday and Sunday.

Fort Lauderdale, FL - March 22, 2010 - Marilyn Manson co-founder and original guitarist Scott Putesky (SMP), aka Daisy Berkowitz, has teamed up with Florida's electro-punk darlings Kill Miss Pretty (KMP) to write and record a new album for release this summer.

The new CD will include their recently released single collaboration JUDY GARLAND, as well as new KMP tunes and a remake of the early Marilyn Manson & Spooky Kids classic "She's not My Girlfriend".

The union seems a match made in heaven/hell as Kill Miss Pretty has been attracting attention from the press not only for its songwriting, but theatrical performances as well. KMP has in the last year garnered awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Rock Band in local publications, and now with the addition of SMP, their continued rise seems inevitable.

On February 20th in Ft. Lauderdale, for the single release party for Judy Garland, SMP joined KMP onstage for 3 songs including Judy Garland, Manson's Dogma, and a freaked out version of Nirvana's Negative Creep. This proved the impetus as KMP and SMP began rehearsing and writing immediately thereafter. The first full show featuring the KMP/SMP lineup will take place April 23rd at Will's Pub in Orlando, FL, and will be the live premier of the "She's Not My Girlfriend" remake. Opening the show will be rock veterans Rock City Angels, and Vascular Symphony.

Getting wet with Kill Miss Pretty (Palm Beach Post)

I was first introduced to Kill Miss Pretty’s music back at Moonfest in October. Since then, I have been intrigued by these guys and gal that (in my mind) stole the show Halloween night. As the Boynton Beach based trio prepares to release their latest single, “Judy Garland”, we sat down with them to see what’s going on in their land of Oz.

Having been a unit for a few years now, Russ (guitar/programming), Alicia (vocals), and Martin (bass) seem more like a family than anything else. There is a closeness about them that is apparent from the moment all three of them are in the room. When I asked Russ why there was no drummer in their act, the response was simple, programming the tracks himself is easier and more consistent. Not having a live drummer also cuts down on the amount of noise coming out of their practice space. With the talent and dynamic these musicians posses, there certainly isn’t a need for one.

?At Francesco LoCastro's Pinkghost show opening Saturday night, the band Kill Miss Pretty was working the packed room with word of an upcoming gig at Squeeze, which, as far as we knew, had been closed for quite some time.

So what's that about? Well, while the venue is indeed now Sea Monster, a few months back the cats from Squeeze approached the current owners with the idea of doing some kinda throwback night on the third Saturday of every month. Apparently they've already thrown a couple parties (this is all news to us). And each was reportedly more successful than the last. Which means by the time Kill Miss Pretty hits the stage with Daisy Berkowitz, things will undoubtedly be wall-to-wall.

Here are the facts: Kill Miss Pretty, who were glowingly featured in a New Times Broward-Palm Beach cover story back in March of '09, have a new single coming out in February. The song is called "Judy Garland," and it features the axe work of KMP pal Scott Putesky, better known as former Mansonoid Daisy Berkowitz.

To celebrate the release of said single, KMP and Daisy B will be performing together at Squeeze at Sea Monster. In addition to the new track, and all your KMP favorites, the gang promises to pull out some old stuff from the beloved Spooky Kids. And, according to KMP's Russ Rogers, the whole gaggle are "gonna be themed in kind of a wacky Wizard of Oz-meets-Lunchbox reject feel. Art of Shade's Kayce Armstrong is even designing [KMP singer] Alicia's Dorothy dress."

Got it? Good. We'll remind you again closer to show time. But for now mark your calendars. Cuz KMP and Daisy B are not to be missed.

It's common knowledge -- electropunk provocateurs Alicia, Russ, and Martin of Kill Miss Pretty are possessed by an unnatural compulsion to "groove your tooties off." Usually, they'll just do you metaphorically with music, tossing off some slinky sex magick like "El Gato," "Girlfriend," or robot porn instrumental "Bas" to get you facedown on the dance floor. But sometimes, they'll actually get explicit and strip to nothing, like they did for the New Times. Really, it all depends on their mood.

Either way though, nude or not, the members of KMP have got their group seduction game on lock. Take for example today's free track "Glows in the Dark," wherein singer Alicia coos: "My special vagina/You can't beat it/But you can eat it/You see my vagina/And you wanna touch it." Not too subtle, but nevertheless titillating.

By now, however, that song's kinda old. So if you want a fresher taste of KMP's slick and sticky stuff, show up next month (roughly a week after V-Day) when Alicia, Russ, and Martin unleash their newest groin groove "Judy Garland" upon the throng at Squeeze. We can't promise nudity ... But there will be an onstage cameo by Spooky Kid Daisy Berkowitz, a few free records, and a whole lot of full-bore freakiness.

Kill Miss Pretty Make Catalog Available Online for Free, Play Saturday at Artopia

Boynton Beach's raunch-punksters Kill Miss Pretty announced Sunday via Twitter that they are giving away their two albums, Permission for Strange and 2006 EP Bite Your Tongue, for free. The trio, which consists of vocalist Alicia, guitarist Russ, and bassist Martin, blend indie rock and electro for a sideshow that is one part carnival, one part sex (mainly on Alicia's part), and one part glam. They were part of the huge Halloween party, Moonfest, and are scheduled to play Saturday at New Times' fashion/art/music soiree Artopia.

Better Than: Witnessing a scantily clad Tinker Bell getting spanked by Beaker the Muppet.

The Review:

With an estimated attendance of over 40,000, Moonfest has become one of South Florida's largest and rowdiest street parties, second only to Key West's Fantasy Fest in sheer unabashed exhibition and overall bacchanalian revelry. One might think that the costumes (or lack thereof) are the main draw, but event organizers Rodney Mayo and Maurice Costigan go out of their way every year to cull an outstanding array of local musical talent as entertainment.

This year, there were showcases by road-tested bands like Miami's Nothing Rhymes With Orange and funk-rocking West Palm Beach quintet Big Bang Radio on the bill. But audiences were also treated with the return of West Palm Beach's local boys made good, Surfer Blood, who in a matter of six months have gone from scrounging gigs in Lake Worth dive bars to becoming indie rock blog darlings.

First we took in a set from Boynton Beach electro-punk trio Kill Miss Pretty. When we last saw them at Respectable Street's anniversary party, they suffered through a myriad of technical difficulties. But their glam-tastic industrial crunk was perfectly dished out at Moonfest. Lead vocalist Alicia Olink, dressed as a sexy, trashy zebra, wiggling her bikini-bottomed derriere to the beat of kittenish tune "El Gato," was quite the eye candy. Her vocals came across as a Courtney Love, but friskier on this one. Guitarist/programmer Russell Rogers and bassist Martin Davis did a great job backing her up with menacing production work on "Music is Nothing." It reminded us of something off a Rob Zombie soundtrack, perfect full-moon-on-Halloween fare.

Nothing Rhymes With Orange played next. Fresh from a stint of U.K. dates, the four-piece demonstrated more than just a little Anglophilia with its arena-size melodies, sung by lead vocalist Carl Coccaro with rousing, Ian McCulloch-esque pipes. They performed instant new anthems like "Headlines and Deadlines," which we could have sworn was a Verve cover, and ended it with mid-tempo ballad "Classic" with Coccaro crooning over his brother Rich's perfect guitar jangle.

After the evening's best costume contest winner, Mr. Dick in the Box, was announced, the much anticipated set by West Palm Beach's Surfer Blood commenced. The first noticeable thing is that group has expanded to a five-piece, with the addition of percussionist Marcos Marchesani. Although he injected a lot of zest the rest of the troupe's scuzz, when he was bouncing around like a mad man striking the cowbell on "Twin Peaks," we really wondered if perhaps Marchesani was not a member of LMFAO making a cameo. "Swim (To Reach the End)" showcased lead vocalist J.P. Pitts' range, as he reached for a deep Frank Black-style cathartic howl. During vulnerable set ender "Catholic Pagans," Pitts ran past the tambourine-playing centaur and did a full-on stage dive towards the crowd. It was an entertaining end to a fantastic performance. Now, onward to bona fide rock superstardom for the boys.

New song(s) & recording update

Well, we've been pretty busy lately working on some new tunes. Hoping to get them fully crafted by the time our next slew of shows begins in late August so we can premier them live.
One song, we recently recorded which isn't so new, is called Judy Garland. This one features our pally Scott Putesky on guest guitar, and we recorded it at Adam Balevic's & Gustav's new studio. Pretty sweet place w/ lots of analog goodies. See the photo on the right. The tune is coming out downright spooky - quite different than how we do it live so it almost seems like a new song.

Two other tunes "in progress" are called FACE and SELF (tentative title). These are actually heavier yet dancier than stuff on our last record, and are quite fun to develop. A couple more songs are in the works, and those will round out what will be our next CD. We've got some really interesting things planned for the launch of this next album so get ready.

I am planning to blog here often so make sure to check back in with us and see what's up....ya never know....maybe free tracks, previews, giveaways...could be anything.

..But overall, if there's a sexiest local band, it's probably Kill Miss Pretty. The electro-punk group out of Boynton Beach, fronted by distractingly stunning Alicia Olink, is easily the most brazenly sexual group in South Florida (with the possible exception of José el Rey, but that's a different story). With her onstage attire ranging from slutty Alice in Wonderland to slutty police officer and slutty Catwoman, if anyone's bringing sexy back around here, it's Olink. And like the Pretty Faces and the Freakin Hott, Kill Miss Pretty has the added bonus of making fine music and attracting a crowd filled with women whom you can buy a drink without getting arrested. Nothing, really, is less sexy than county jail.

Kill Miss Pretty and a different kind of luau

This weekend, Boynton Beach’s Kill Miss Pretty took over Propaganda in Lake Worth for a couple of entertaining hours.
The almost always belly-baring Alicia (vocals), Russell (guitar), Martin (bass) and Mr. Frisky (a drum machine) had everything they needed to put on a Hawaiian luau of a show. Between the hula-hoops, the piñata and their stage presence, the music seemed to come so naturally.
Alicia, dressed to impress as a wahine (Hawaiian woman), strutted her stuff with what seemed to be a fruit hat for their always exaggerated and unique themed performances.
She demanded of the crowd: “Take your shirt off, stand on the bar, and eat a banana.”

With the entertainment so far underway, it was a few songs into their show I realized they didn’t even have a drummer. Instead, the area behind the band consisted of more piñatas and an Apple computer.
Their stage show resembled a No Doubt show back in 1989, while the music is most comparable to Mindless Self Indulgence’s electro-punk style. The set was packed with songs about licking cats (“El Gato”) and proclaiming “you’re not the only one that’s crazy” (“Leave A Message”) as well as the estrogen-packed song “Glows in the Dark.”
This band seems to have the chemistry and will to entertain to keep bringing fans to every local venue they hit. They also keep you wondering: “What will she wear next time?”

It's easy, when confronted with Boynton Beach-based electro-glam trio Kill Miss Pretty, to get wrapped up in the group's theatrics. Taking a page from the Bowie how-to book, the band makes each of its shows a costumed spectacle. The three have performed dressed as a ringleader with circus clowns, a race-car driver with pit crew, and a cop and muggers — to name just a few get-ups. The musicians even appeared in their birthday suits on a recent New Times cover. What all this might distract from, though, is that frontwoman Alicia Olink boasts an enviable set of pipes. On the group's latest album, Permission for Strange, Olink slithers through one slippery range. She might move from a bratty schoolgirl sing-speak to a subdued coo to an all-out wail. It's as explosive as her onstage antics and just as exciting.

Kill Miss Pretty to Play Propaganda May 23, the White Room in June

Boynton Beach's elctro-punksters Kill Miss Pretty are reviving Florida's music scene one rock sideshow at a time. The trio, which is the best local band since the Freakin Hott, is made up of vocalist Alicia, guitarist Russ, and bassist Martin. They will bring their carnivalesque raunch-pop to Propaganda on May 23, and posted a video on Youtube promoting the show. They'll also be playing at Supercon on June 6, Hot Topic in Boynton Beach on June 26, and Miami's The White Room June 26. Although being surrounded by cosplay enthusiasts at Supercon may not appeal to you (And Hot Topic is for freaky 13-year-olds with serial-killer proclivities), the show at Propaganda will provide a place for the rest of us to enjoy our home-grown rock darlings.

Over 2 years ago, we released a short film (on YouTube and other video outlets) called RED. It depicts the untimely demise of little red riding hood at the hands of 2 ill-tempered wolves. Just this week, YouTube decided to remove it. We can only assume that after 10000+ plays, what was deemed appropriate in 2006 is now unacceptable in 2009.

When Kill Miss Pretty debuted a few years ago, the band seemed to be little more than a lark for bassist Martin Davis, guitarist Russ Rogers and vocalist Alicia Olink. After all, the trio's first performance was more notable for its "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" costumes than for its set, which included several electro-punk originals and a handful of left-field covers such as The Moldy Peaches' "Who's Got the Crack?" The band's audience certainly wouldn't have been wrong to think it was all one big goof. Today, however, Kill Miss Pretty cannot be so easily dismissed. The group's recent CD, "Permission for Strange," presents a band in full, capturing the playful energy of its live performances, the musicians' confident songwriting (particularly on the single "Drawing Pictures of Haunted Houses With You") and the singer's coquettish charisma. Coupling bawdy lyrics with a winking, teasing charm, Olink, who is married to Rogers, could make a full moon blush—even when she and her bandmates are dressed like characters from "The Wizard of Oz."

Kill Miss Pretty Returns to the Stage

The past 15 months have been a bit turbulent for the band Kill Miss Pretty. In 2007, the group was enjoying plenty of attention within local music circles, and its lead singer, Alicia Olink, was (and still is, in fact) seen as an indie darling on the rise. With a voice that's part nursery-school and part raunch, Olink is charismatic and alluring enough vocally to create a buzz all on her own. Couple that with the two well-established, longtime musicians playing beside her and Kill Miss Pretty seemed like it had fallen into just the right niche.

The band burst onto the scene in 2006 with its kitschy, electro-pop tunes and sexually charged lyrics, impressing the hell out of onlookers at their shows. Just as the band's popularity was on the upswing, though, real life reared its familiar head. Late in 2007, Olink and her husband, Russ Rogers, who also serves as the band's guitarist, producer, and drum programmer, got pregnant and decided to have a baby. Nothing wrong with that. But having a pregnant lead singer can obviously affect the number of shows a band plays. On top of that, the couple permanently adopted their 6- and 9-year-old nieces. In just a matter of months, they went from being carefree 30-somethings with music as their main focus to becoming parents with three kids in the house and a heap of responsibility yanking them away from music.

But KMP is back. They just finished the new album, Permission for Strange, last month and shot a new video, and there's already a small buzz generating locally around their return to the stage. And rightfully so. It's been a long time since a lot of their fans have seen them perform.

The first thing I wanted to know is what's it like trying to complete an album during pregnancy — and then having two extra children sprung on you unexpectedly in the process.

"There definitely were a lot more distractions going on," Rogers says with a laugh during a recent phone chat. "We'd take an hour and work on a song because sometimes that's all we could spare."

It's probably best that the woman who gave birth answer the question as well. Her answer says a lot. "I think I was a little more focused [working on the album while pregnant], because obviously I was sober the whole time," Olink says (she likes her booze). "It was also harder to sing, because I couldn't breathe as well. I'd get really tired at times. But everything is a little bit harder when you're eight months pregnant."

You can hear the couple's, 8-month-old son, Cooper, vying for attention in the background, further driving home his point that the couple's priorities have changed.

It's a well-timed yelp that comes through the receiver, yet Rogers continues unfazed: "I'm used to it, man. I always say, I've got three kids, two dogs, two jobs, two houses, and two bands... " His voice trails off, but what he's saying makes the catchy and well-composed songs on Permission for Strange that much more impressive. He and Olink, along with their bassist, Martin Davis, have recently crafted one of the darkest and edgiest electro-pop albums to come out of South Florida in recent memory. On "Glows in the Dark" Olink starts the track off with the not-so-PG lyrics: You know you never made me cum, but we had so much fun, with my-special-vagina. The three and a half minute song is about a glow in the dark vibrator and her former lesbian lover.

Olink sees no reason not to discuss both openly. "Umm, I like sex a lot," she says after her hubby, Rogers, has passed her the phone to explain the lyrics of the song. "I think everyone likes sex a lot, probably as much as I do. I don't feel like you have to keep quiet about it. I mean, I don't try to flaunt my sex life in anyone's face. I keep it quiet. I wouldn't sit around with a group of preschoolers and talk about 'Glows in the Dark.' But I've never felt the need to be ashamed or uptight about it either."

That attitude guides a lot of the principles that KMP lives by as a band. They don't take themselves too seriously, and they're more focused on having fun as friends than trying to become famous.

"We're not even pursuing making it big, which is probably why we had so much fun making this album," Olink says.

"We do it just to have fun," Rogers adds. "Once it all gets too serious, it taints the whole process. It's gotta be something that you enjoy."

What's for sure is that their live shows are geared to be highly enjoyable. The band takes delight in dressing up in quirky costumes. Themes from previous concerts have included Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, and Girl Scouts, to name a few. For their upcoming album release party this weekend at Respectable Street, they've got a circus macabre theme planned.

Part of that goes along with the album title they chose.

"Permission for Strange — it's like, you've got permission to be different," says Davis, the group's bass player. "We're saying that there are no boundaries. And we try to make that carry over into our music and our live shows."

Kill Miss Pretty gets haunted in new video & single

Kill Miss Pretty's new video "Drawing Pictures of Haunted Houses with You" is now available online at the band's YouTube & MySpace sites. It is the first video and single from their new CD, "Permission for Strange". The video was directed by Cameron Macdonald, whose credits include Miami Ink, Wanderlust and I Bet You, for TLC & Mojo Networks. South Florida's own Daisy Berkowitz of Marilyn Manson fame makes a cameo along with lending his signature Ouija Guitar to the video. The result is a surreal mixture of sensuality and spookiness played out to the soundtrack of KMP's most personal and danceable songs to date.

Director Cameron MacDonald on working with Kill Miss Pretty:
"I don't tell them too much up front - that way they feel pressured to do what I want when the time comes. It's really a rush for me. Bending people at my will, yeah."

Daisy Berkowitz on filming:
"I'm really glad they didn't smash my guitar."

When asked to describe the overall sound of the new CD, guitarist Russ Rogers stated, "It's a stamp in time really.'Permission for Strange' represents the natural evolution of KMP into a mischievous, punky, electronic pop rock band with lots of hooks - oh wait, that's what we already are. I guess it's a good new batch of KMP tunes. Part electro, part rock, with both deep and inciting lyrics. Basically we've got stories to tell, and the best way we know how to do that is by creating music, having fun, and not taking ourselves too seriously - I think that sense of fun really comes through on this CD as it does in our live show."
Bassist Martin Davis adds "If you think we take ourselves seriously, then you're seriously mistaken".
